Next Tuesday, September 22, the Uriach Chair in Nutraceuticals will be presented at the facilities of the Rectorate of the Rovira i Virgili University in Tarragona. The presentation will be attended by the rector of the University, Dr. Maria José Figueras, the vice-rector for Innovation and Knowledge Transfer, Dr. Francisco Medina, the professor of the department of biochemistry and biotechnology and director of the Chair, Dr. Begoña Muguerza, the Director of Consumer Healthcare at Uriach Dr. Javier Navarro and the R&D Manager of Consumer Healthcare at Uriach Ms. Rosa Raventós.
This chair is the result of a collaboration agreement between the Uriach Foundation and the Rovira i Virgili University to promote the knowledge of nutraceuticals in the educational, professional and social fields through the promotion of outreach, teaching and research activities that allow the progress and development of this discipline in our country. The chair will be attached to the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology that coordinates the Official Master's Degree in Nutrition and Metabolism (URV-UB), taught in collaboration with the University of Barcelona. Its director will be Begoña Muguerza, associate professor in this department and head of the URV's Nutrigenomics research group.
The objectives of the Chair will contribute to the training of students so that they can face new challenges in the field of nutraceuticals, promote their labor insertion in the business and industrial world, promote the training of professionals in the health world in this discipline, promote scientific meetings to disseminate nutraceuticals and create new lines of research in this innovative field of study.
The generation and dissemination of knowledge about nutraceuticals, from different but complementary perspectives such as the industrial, professional and educational world, will help to create future spaces for debate, collaboration and development in this field.
For this, the Chair will organize different activities such as holding specialized courses and conferences aimed at professionals and students, awarding scholarships to students of the official Master's Degree in Nutrition and Metabolism (URV-UB) and the creation of an annual award that will be awarded It will award the best Final Master's Project, related to nutraceuticals. Likewise, Uriach professionals will participate as teachers in said master's degree to give a vision of nutraceuticals from an industrial and professional point of view.
